Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has removed a prominent mural featuring Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg from beneath the Ganeshguri flyover. The artwork, which carried the iconic phrase Comrade Never Die, had become a significant cultural landmark for commuters and fans in the city.

The removal drew immediate criticism from the public, many of whom viewed the portrait as a symbolic tribute to the artist's cultural legacy. Garima Saikia Garg, the singer's wife, shared her reaction on social media, expressing sadness while noting that the deep connection fans feel toward the artist remains intact. In her post, she questioned whether the portrait actually detracted from the city's appearance. She wrote, "while the artwork may have been erased from public view, emotional connection and public affection cannot be removed in the same manner."

Garima clarified that she does not harbor anger regarding the decision. She emphasized that the bond between the singer and his supporters exists independently of physical monuments. Despite the removal, the tribute is set to return to the city landscape. Artist Marshall Baruah has announced plans to repaint the portrait at the same location, inviting the public to join him in a show of solidarity.
