Shillong: Public fury is mounting in Bihar after the police killing of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari. Villagers in Bilauti gathered for a massive Mahapanchayat this week. They pledged to keep fighting until the authorities deliver real justice. The movement shows no sign of slowing down.
Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor slammed the state government for its response. He claimed that firing lower-level officers is just a move to deflect blame. Kishor wants to see the people in Patna who gave the orders face the law. He insists that the buck stops at the top.
Kishor took aim at the Chief Minister for failing to acknowledge the family. He told the crowd, "The Chief Minister has not expressed condolences to the family. The case was mishandled from the beginning, and now lower-level officials are being made scapegoats to ease public pressure."
Tiwari died on June 17 in a police encounter. While police claim they fired in self-defense, the victim's family says he had already surrendered his weapon. A video of the shooting sparked outrage across the state. Five police officers face charges, but the investigation remains under fire.
Kishor questioned the legitimacy of the government's judicial inquiry. He demanded to know who is running it and what they intend to cover. The Jan Suraaj leader promised to seek a meeting with the Chief Minister within 15 days. If the state refuses to act, he warned, the protests will grow.
