Agartala: Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has criticized the former CPI(M) government for its past attempts to alter the identity of Agartala's Ujjayanta Palace. Speaking at a public gathering, the royal scion argued that these efforts to rename the ancestral home of the Manikya dynasty revealed a double standard regarding the treatment of historical landmarks.

Debbarma drew a direct parallel to the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. He questioned why the Left government in West Bengal maintained the name of the monument dedicated to the British Queen while simultaneously seeking to erase the legacy of Tripura's own royal family. He insisted that the historical significance of the palace deserved far greater respect than it received during the previous administration.

Beyond the naming controversy, Debbarma challenged the decision to place a statue directly in front of the palace grounds. He contrasted this with the Victoria Memorial, which remains free of such installations. The Ujjayanta Palace currently serves as the State Museum and remains a central point of debate regarding the preservation of Tripura's heritage and its political history.
