Guwahati: Railway authorities and local police launched an investigation after two pistols were discovered near the tracks in Banipur, close to the Dibrugarh Railway Station in Assam, on Sunday morning. Passersby spotted the weapons lying by the rail line and promptly notified officials.

A responding team from the Railway Protection Force discovered one of the firearms lying in the open, while the second pistol was concealed inside a black polythene packet. An RPF official described the scene, stating, "We received information about suspicious objects near the tracks and immediately rushed a team to the spot. On inspection, we found two pistols, one concealed in a polythene packet and the other lying exposed."

A joint task force consisting of the Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police, and Assam Police secured the area and seized the weapons. Investigators believe the firearms were likely discarded in a panic by individuals attempting to bypass security checks or smuggle contraband through the rail network. Authorities are currently reviewing the incident from all angles as the forensic examination of the recovered items continues.
