Police Probe Alleged Sex Trafficking Ring After Rescuing Missing Girl in Assam

Guwahati: Tensions flared in Cachar district, Assam, on Tuesday night following the discovery of a minor girl at the Parijat Hotel in Lathigram. The teenager had been reported missing for nearly three months before being located at the property, sparking allegations that the hotel served as a hub for a commercial sexual exploitation racket.

A large crowd of local residents gathered at the site to protest the discovery. During the demonstration, the group detained Dr. J.P. Das, a local medical practitioner they accused of involvement in the operation, before turning him over to the police. Additional Superintendent of Police of Cachar arrived with a large contingent to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control.

The rescued girl is now in administrative custody for legal and medical processing. Community members have voiced anger over the incident, claiming that illicit activities have persisted at the hotel for some time without intervention. They are now calling for a full inquiry and strict legal consequences for those involved.

Cachar police have launched a formal investigation into the matter. While the department has yet to release specific charges or confirm arrests, administrative sources stated that "a detailed briefing will be provided upon the conclusion of the preliminary investigation."
