Police Detain Bangladeshi National for Illegal Entry in Assam

Guwahati: Police in Assam’s Hailakandi district took a Bangladeshi national into custody on Monday. Officers detained Shahed Ahmed in the Palichara Part II area after a tip-off reached the Jamira Police Outpost. He is being questioned right now.

Ahmed hails from Rasulpur village in the Sylhet district of Bangladesh. He crossed into India years ago and married a local woman. Since then, he has worked across the Northeast, including stints in Meghalaya. His wife and daughter have lived in Palichara for over two years.

The man arrived in Hailakandi two days ago. He wanted to take his daughter with him. Jamira Police moved quickly to intercept him before he could leave. Investigators believe he used a known smuggling route in the Sribhumi district to cross the border. Officials confirmed the investigation is ongoing to pin down the exact path he took.

Authorities stated that "appropriate legal action will be initiated based on the outcome of the investigation." Ahmed remains in police custody while the inquiry continues.
