Kohima: Phek Police joined forces with local authorities and community organizations on June 6 to remove tobacco products from vendors operating near schools. The operation targeted businesses located within a 100-yard radius of educational institutions throughout Phek town.

This initiative involved cooperation between the district administration, the Phek Area Mothers' Association, the Phek Town Chakhesang Students' Union, and the Tobacco Control Cell. The sweep was conducted under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act of 2003, which explicitly bans the sale of these items in close proximity to schools to protect students.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Pritpal Kaur confirmed that these operations are part of a routine effort to maintain regulatory compliance. "The police, along with the concerned stakeholders, regularly conduct inspections to check the sale of tobacco products in the town," she said. Officials stated the primary goal of the drive is to enforce public health regulations and limit student access to tobacco.
