Kohima: The Pfutsero Town Chakhesang Students' Union hosted a seminar on vocational skills and content creation at NHSS Pfutsero on September 12. Starting at 10 am, the event connected students with three experts to discuss entrepreneurship and digital careers. The session aimed to move beyond standard academic routes.
Dziesevolie Tsürho of the NBSE Vocational Education Cell highlighted the National Education Policy 2020. He noted that India produces over 10 million graduates annually, yet fewer than half find work. Nagaland faces a stark reality. The state holds a 95.7 per cent literacy rate, but 92 per cent of residents lack formal technical training. With unemployment at 16.07 per cent, Tsürho argued that vocational training increases job prospects by more than 46 per cent. He told students to look at agri-tech, food processing, ecotourism, handlooms, and digital services instead of waiting for government jobs.
Entrepreneur Atsungba Sangtam shared his path from street food vendor and taxi driver to digital content creator. He pushed students to stop consuming and start building an identity online. "He urged students to start small, study their surroundings and build on their genuine interests," Sangtam said during his session. He views a personal brand as a vital asset for any business venture.
Imtiyala Imsong from LGMM introduced the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana. This Ministry of Rural Development scheme offers free training to rural youth aged 15 to 35. LGMM provides uniforms, meals, and hostel stays for students pursuing trades like Apparel and Made-ups. The seminar, supported by Ellide Digital Printing Press, focused on turning local talent into steady employment.
