Kohima: Deputy Commissioner of Peren Hiazu Meru convened a meeting with tribal leaders and civil society organizations on June 10 to coordinate preparations for the upcoming Census 2027. The session brought together representatives from groups including the Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation and Kuki Inpi Nagaland to ensure the local population is ready for the national exercise.
During the briefing, Meru stressed the necessity of gathering precise data to ensure every citizen is counted. He confirmed that the district has already appointed 250 enumerators and 46 supervisors to manage the field operations. The official underscored the necessity of community backing, stating, "The DC urged citizens to ensure that no individual is left out during the enumeration process and called upon tribal leaders and civil society organisations to actively support census officials."
SDO (Civil) Sentilong Ozukum introduced the technological changes arriving with the new census. For the first time, India will conduct the operation digitally. Ozukum explained that residents will have access to a Self-Enumeration Portal as part of the House Listing Operation. This digital platform will be open for public use between June 16 and June 30, 2026.
The meeting concluded with a call for local organizations to lead public awareness campaigns. Meru asked these groups to encourage residents to cooperate fully with census staff to ensure the digital transition goes smoothly across the district.
