Shillong: Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong this Thursday. Governors, Chief Ministers, and senior officials from across eight states gathered to finalize a long-term roadmap for the region, focusing heavily on the North East Vision Plan 2047.

This strategic framework aims to transform the Northeast into a hub of innovation, sustainability, and economic growth by the centenary of India's independence. During the session, Shah emphasized the government's role in shifting the regional narrative, stating, "Modi govt. ended era of violence in Northeast and transformed the region from a hotspot of disputes to a hotspot of opportunities."

Participants reviewed progress from various high-level task forces dedicated to critical development sectors. Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia noted that the states are united in their resolve to build a more prosperous future through collective planning. The meeting also evaluated performance metrics for Ministry of DoNER schemes and examined outcomes from recent investment summits and bankers' conclaves.

The assembly covered a wide range of sector-specific goals, including tourism promotion, food self-sufficiency, and sports infrastructure. Discussions also addressed ways to strengthen logistics, support handloom industries, and implement youth-centric initiatives. These deliberations are intended to create a foundation for more effective, coordinated action across all northeastern states.
