Imphal: Northeast Indians in the UK filled the Indian Gymkhana Club on July 11 for the United Colours of North East India Festival 2026. The volunteer-led event drew over 500 attendees. It marked the first time London hosted a celebration covering all eight Northeastern states on this scale.
Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma backed the gathering organized by North East Indians in UK. Families, students, artists, and entrepreneurs packed the venue. They shared folk music, traditional food, handlooms, and handicrafts. The organizers worked to kill off misconceptions about the region and build a networking hub for those living abroad.
The event connected the diaspora to their roots. Participants praised the effort to bridge the gap between their home region and a global audience. Representing Meghalaya, Susan Nonsieg noted the festival "brought a part of the region's heritage to the world and promoted cross-cultural understanding."
Thoiba Thoudam of Manipur said the project united friends of the region through music and cuisine. Organizers pointed to the high turnout of second-generation diaspora members as a major win. They see this participation as a vital step in keeping the cultural legacy of the Northeast alive.
