Shillong: Amanche Ch. Marak filed an FIR against Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday, August 3. The daughter of the Danakgre Akhing Nokma accuses the Chief Minister of illegally distributing land pattas. This happened at the Araimile Police Outpost.
The complaint also names West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Charming N. Sangma. It targets the president and secretary of the Chinap Aslang locality in Tura. The accused allegedly distributed land pattas on June 30. They used the Assam Scheduled Districts and Sixth Schedule Land Act for the move. They did this after collecting huge lease payments.
The land falls under the Sixth Schedule. It remains sub judice before the Meghalaya High Court in case WP(C) No. 671 of 2025. Marak claims the government ignored formal objections filed under Section 5A of the Land Acquisition Act. The complainant argued the government engaged in a criminal conspiracy to settle land illegally. She stated, "The FIR, while terming the act as a violation of the Sixth Schedule and Constitutional Rights, contempt of Court as well as an illegal land acquisition process sought the immediate registration of the same under IPC, CrPC and Contempt of Court Acts along with a thorough investigation into the matter."
The complainant wants a full investigation. She demands proceedings under the CrPC and Contempt of Court Acts. No official response has come from the Chief Minister or the district administration yet.
