Kohima: The Tagore Cultural Complex in Chümoukedima officially opened on Friday following an inauguration ceremony led by K. Konngam Konyak, the Advisor for Art and Culture. The project, which cost 10 crore rupees, was funded through a partnership between the Union Ministry of Culture and the Nagaland state government.

During the event, Konyak emphasized the necessity of protecting public infrastructure. He expressed concern over the neglect and misuse of government property throughout Nagaland, noting that citizens share a collective responsibility to preserve these assets. After inspecting the new building, Konyak identified water leakage and ceiling damage, tasking the department and the contractor with immediate repairs to ensure the facility stays in good condition.

Technical details provided by SDO Teisovilie indicate the project was sanctioned in 2017 and awarded to M/s J.S. Builders in 2018. Construction progress was hampered by the Covid 19 pandemic and multiple thefts at the work site. The finished structure spans 13,641 square feet over two levels. The ground floor features a hall, kitchen, and rehearsal spaces, while the upper floor provides exhibition areas, guest rooms, and a seminar hall.

The ceremony included a dedicatory prayer by pastor N. Benjamin Sema and cultural performances. Officials involved in the project expressed optimism that the complex will serve as a vital cultural hub for the region.
