Kohima: A new Mobile Medical Unit launched on July 24, 2026, to serve the Thonoknyu block in Nagaland’s Noklak district. The van hit the road on August 1. It provides lab tests and screenings for non-communicable diseases in areas where medical help remains scarce.
This is the state's third unit. The first launched in 2024 for Zunheboto’s Akuhaito block, and the second opened in the Kiphire district in 2025. Data shows the first unit screened 15,002 people, followed by 10,882 in the second year. The Zunheboto unit was turned over to the local district hospital earlier this year. Organizers hope to repeat this handover model elsewhere.
The Entrepreneurs Associates handle the ground work, while TATA AIG provides the funding. Swasti, part of the Catalyst Group, manages technical oversight. The project collaborates closely with the Nagaland Health Mission. Teams often work long, irregular hours to reach isolated citizens.
Success in Nagaland has sparked growth elsewhere. The model is now active in Meghalaya, Tripura, and Assam, with talks underway for Arunachal Pradesh. Neikule Doulo, Executive Director of the Entrepreneurs Associates, noted, "We never thought that this kind of a working model would be possible with the participation of multiple stakeholders; however, it is highly motivating to see that we are now here with the 3rd MMU."
TATA AIG’s Madhukar Sinha and Devang Pandya oversee the project locally. Meanwhile, Swasti handles data management from Bangalore. The project aims to link villagers with state health schemes to ensure long-term care.
