Imphal: A fresh study hits shelves today. It tackles five decades of questionable data in Manipur. The book, titled Memory, Manipulation and Migration: Understanding the Anomalies in Manipur’s Census, 1961-2011, looks at deep demographic shifts. The National Research Centre published the work. Dr. Michael Samjetsabam wrote it.
Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University, released the text at the National Research Centre Auditorium in Canchipur. Thongam Ajit, the center's president, oversaw the event. Prof. R.K. Narendra Singh joined as the guest of honor. Dr. Homen Thangjam of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University reviewed the findings.
The research spanned three years. It tracks migration patterns and census inconsistencies. Dr. Homen Thangjam called it, "one of the most resourceful academic works on the subject." He noted the deep research behind the claims. The author, a philosophy professor at Dhanamanjuri University, started the project after ethnic violence broke out in 2023. He gathered records while navigating significant gaps in available data.
Samjetsabam aims to clean up the process. He wants the 2027 Census to avoid past errors. He pushed the publication forward to influence the upcoming count. Prof. R.K. Narendra Singh suggested future editions could target global readers by meeting international standards. Officials hope the book fosters better evidence-based debates on the state's future.
