Guwahati: Nagaon Police have dismantled a suspected passport forgery racket following the arrest of three individuals. The operation centers on allegations of fabricating official documents to help people secure passports fraudulently.

The primary suspect, Rupchand Ahmed, was taken into custody after investigators linked him to a long-running scheme. Police allege that Ahmed operated under the guise of a journalist to deceive victims, often using his fabricated persona to engage in blackmail and extortion. Authorities are currently reviewing multiple complaints connected to these criminal activities.

Senior Superintendent of Police Prarthana Pratim Saikia directed the investigation, which led to the arrests of Ahmed and two others. The suspects were presented in court and are currently held under a two-day police remand. According to police sources, the scope of the operation may be extensive. Officials stated, "The case may be connected to a wider network involved in passport-related fraud that has allegedly been operating in Nagaon for a considerable period."

Ahmed faces additional legal challenges, with multiple cases already registered against him at the Kachua, Bebejia, and Barghat police outposts. Investigators are continuing to examine seized documents and track potential beneficiaries of the scheme, noting that more arrests are likely as the inquiry proceeds.
