Nagaland Team Secures Sixth Place at World Nomad Games

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister’s team took sixth place in the Classic Tug of War at the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan. The event runs from August 31 to September 6, 2026, across Bishkek and Cholpon-Ata. It features 3,000 athletes from over 100 nations competing in 43 traditional sports. This trip marked India's first appearance in this specific event.

Captain Vechita Khesoh led the 10-man roster. They beat squads from Brazil, South Korea, Great Britain, and Turkey. The team eventually fell to the host nation. The lineup included Vechita Khesoh, Kezhaseluo Pienyu, Keviser Dzuvichu, Sedevizo Keretsu, Vekuzo Vezuh, Niekhozo Keroh, Heuci Kunlim, and Vemele Thingo. Coach Kethoseituo Sekhose directed the team, while Joint Director Neuvitho Nyuthe acted as referee.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the August 31 opening ceremony at Bishkek Arena. The crowd cheered as the Indian contingent carried the national flag. Nagaland Tug of War Association President Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro praised the squad for their performance. He noted, "The team for displaying unity and sporting spirit" throughout the competition. Swuro thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for the patronage that made the international trip possible.
