Kohima: Students across Nagaland observed a Black Friday protest on June 19 to push back against government inaction regarding a stalled construction project. The All Nagaland College Students Union launched this initial phase of agitation to demand the immediate completion of a 100-bedded girls hostel at Kohima Science College in Jotsoma.
Union president Kivika Yeptho and assistant general secretary Imnawabang T. Longkumer confirmed the protest followed the expiration of a formal ultimatum. Despite multiple appeals and consistent efforts to engage officials, the student body reports that no progress has been made on the facility. The union stated that the project is an urgent priority, as the ongoing delay compromises the safety and academic goals of female students.
ANCSU leaders warned that the movement will intensify if authorities fail to provide a concrete solution. The union is preparing for a massive statewide rally if the government continues to ignore its demands. Addressing the lack of progress, the union stated that the government’s prolonged inaction had compelled the students to resort to democratic forms of protest.
The union thanked its affiliated units for their strong participation in the event. This widespread solidarity highlights a growing frustration among the student community regarding the government's perceived failure to address critical educational infrastructure needs.
