Kohima: The Nagaland Police have issued a formal appeal for peace and communal harmony as regional authorities monitor the ongoing instability in neighboring Manipur. Director General of Police Rupin Sharma cautioned residents against spreading unverified rumors or provocative content on social media, noting that artificial intelligence has increased the risks associated with false narratives.

This advisory comes during a period of unrest in Manipur, where search operations are currently underway in the Kangpokpi district following reports of hostages taken by armed groups. Earlier in May, violence in the region led to multiple deaths, including three church leaders and a civilian. While 31 members of the Kuki and Naga communities were recently released after being held captive, the situation remains volatile.

Nagaland officials have warned that individuals caught circulating inflammatory content or fake news will face legal consequences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. Citizens are encouraged to remain level-headed and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement. Despite the proximity of the crisis, Nagaland has remained largely peaceful, and officials are working to ensure that stability persists through community cooperation.
