Kohima: Nagaland Police have taken an armed branch constable into custody following allegations that he sexually assaulted an elderly woman in the Kiphire district. The accused, identified as Heluikie Nsanglung, also known as Amos, was serving with the District Executive Force in Kiphire at the time of the incident.
The investigation began after a formal complaint was lodged at the Kiphire Women Police Station on June 17. Officers apprehended the suspect the same day. According to the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Kiphire, the accused has since been placed under immediate suspension and is facing departmental disciplinary proceedings. He also underwent a medical examination which, according to preliminary findings, suggested he was under the influence of alcohol.
A specialized forensic team from the Dimapur Forensic Science Laboratory arrived in the district on June 18 to process the crime scene and collect evidence. The victim was transported to the District Hospital Kiphire for a medical examination as part of the legal process. Officials have registered the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police stated that they are committed to a transparent process, confirming that "a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted and that all necessary legal measures will be taken to ensure justice is delivered at the earliest." The accused remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
