Kohima: The Regional Centre for Organic and Natural Farming, working under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, joined forces with the Nagaland Department of Agriculture. They held two capacity building workshops at the Directorate of Agriculture in Kohima. The sessions ran on September 14 and again from September 15 to September 16.
Dr. Vootla Praveen Kumar, a Junior Scientific Officer from the Imphal office, led the training. He served as the primary convenor and coordinator. He ran hands on sessions covering the complexities of PGS India certification and the technical operation of the government web portal. Officials aimed to sharpen the skills of Agriculture Department staff, extension workers, and representatives from Farmer Producer Organizations.
The training curriculum spanned several practical areas. Experts covered certification standards, quality control, packaging, labeling, and plant protection. They also tackled marketing strategies and regulatory requirements. C. Mohanty of SIMFED and Subject Matter Specialist Eliseni Tsopoe from KVK Kohima served as the primary resource persons.
The events wrapped up with feedback sessions and the delivery of certificates. Participants pushed for more ongoing support from the government. Officials noted the sessions improved local implementation of organic standards. As one participant stated, "Participants appreciated the practical exposure and expressed the need for continued capacity building support from the Government of India." This initiative successfully bridged the gap between national mandates and state-level execution.
