Nagaland Labour Department Targets Non-Functional Trade Unions for Deregistration

Kohima: The Labour Commissioner of Nagaland has signaled a crackdown on inactive labor organizations across the state. Officials identified several trade unions registered under the Trade Unions Act of 1926 as non-functional, leaving them vulnerable to formal deregistration proceedings.

Affected groups include the Dimapur Motor Workers Trade Union, Dimapur Auto Rickshaw Owners Union, and Dimapur Land Transport Workers Union. The list also names the East Dimapur Purana Bazaar Labour Trade Union, Dimapur Taxi Drivers Union, Dimapur Cycle Rickshaw Pullers Union, Dimapur Truck Drivers Union, and the Kohima District Land Transport Trade Union in Phesama.

The department has officially demanded an explanation from these entities regarding why the Registrar should not move forward with cancellation. According to a DIPR report, any organization seeking to avoid this outcome must provide a formal intimation to the Registrar within 30 days. Unions that fail to address the notice within this window face mandatory proceedings for the cancellation of their registration as per the relevant provisions of the Trade Unions Act and Rules.
