Nagaland Labour Department Targets Eight Trade Unions for Deregistration

Kohima: The Labour Commissioner of Nagaland has served public notices to eight trade unions, citing them as non-functional or in default. These organizations, which were originally registered under the Trade Unions Act of 1926, now face potential deregistration by the Registrar of Trade Unions.

The affected groups include several organizations based in Dimapur, specifically the Dimapur Motor Workers Trade Union, Dimapur Auto Rickshaw Owners Union, Dimapur Land Transport Workers Union, East Dimapur Purana Bazaar Labour Trade Union, Dimapur Taxi Drivers Union, Dimapur Cycle Rickshaw Pullers Union, and the Dimapur Truck Drivers Union. The list also includes the Kohima District Land Transport Trade Union located in Phesama.

The department has demanded that these groups explain why their registration should not be revoked under Section 10 of the Trade Unions Act. Any union hoping to avoid formal cancellation must formally notify the Registrar of their intent to resume activities within 30 days. The department warned that failure to provide a response within this window will lead to the legal termination of their registration status. The notice stated that defaulting unions are "liable for deregistration by the Registrar of Trade Unions."
