Nagaland Governor Urges Citizens to Become Regular Blood Donors

Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has issued an appeal for residents, youth, and civil society groups to commit to regular voluntary blood donation. Speaking at a World Blood Donor Day event in Kohima, the Governor emphasized that consistent contributions are essential for maintaining a sustainable and safe blood supply across the state.

Addressing attendees at the Capital Convention Centre, the Governor highlighted the humanitarian impact of the practice. "Every unit of blood donated is a gift of hope, compassion and life," he stated. He also shared his personal commitment to the cause, noting that he has donated blood 36 times and has pledged his eyes for donation after his lifetime.

The event was organized by the Kohima District Planning and Development Board alongside the Voluntary Blood Donors Association of Nagaland. Officials at the gathering noted that moving away from emergency-only collections toward a culture of routine, unpaid donation is critical. MLA and Kohima DPDB chairman Kevipodi Sophie echoed these sentiments, describing blood donation as a vital act that bridges social and religious divides.

During the ceremony, organizers recognized several patrons and local partners for their support in strengthening the regional blood donation movement since 2011. The program concluded with a voluntary blood drive, marking a collective effort to encourage lasting participation in life-saving initiatives throughout Nagaland.
