Nagaland Governor Reviews Sports Initiatives and Medical Education Progress

Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav met with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports on June 18 to evaluate the state's progress in youth empowerment and athletic infrastructure. During the review at Lok Bhavan, officials showcased recent accomplishments in disciplines like taekwondo, archery, and boxing, while highlighting the successful hosting of national sporting events.

The department outlined current infrastructure projects, including multipurpose indoor halls and futsal grounds funded through schemes like Khelo India and PM-DevINE. While reviewing these advancements, the Governor discussed future plans, such as the proposed Chief Minister's Sports Initiative, which aims to provide scholarships and advanced coaching to talented athletes.

Following the sports review, Governor Yadav visited the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. He toured the modern facilities, including the institution's smart lecture theatres and research laboratories. Addressing the staff and students, the Governor highlighted the college's role in improving the region's medical capacity.

"NIMSR as a significant milestone in the history of Nagaland and the state's first medical college, reflecting the collective aspiration to strengthen healthcare, medical education and research," Yadav stated during his visit. He praised the institute for its community outreach efforts and the upcoming operationalisation of its 400-bedded tertiary care hospital.
