Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Kohima on Thursday to evaluate the progress of the state's first medical college. During his visit, the Governor met with staff, faculty, and students to discuss the institution's ongoing development since it launched its MBBS programme last year.
Yadav praised the institute for its modern academic facilities, which include smart lecture theatres, a central library, and advanced laboratories. He pointed to the growing number of extramural research projects as a positive indicator of the school's trajectory. The Governor specifically commended the implementation of the Family Adoption Programme and community health initiatives, noting that these efforts show the school's dedication to producing skilled professionals.
The Governor also discussed plans to expand the facility, including the upcoming operationalisation of the NIMSR Hospital and the development of a 400-bed tertiary care centre. He stated that these upgrades will substantially increase the state's capacity for medical research, teaching, and patient care.
Highlighting the institute's forward-thinking approach, the Governor praised the creation of an Indigenous Herbal Garden and the use of digital technology in training. He encouraged everyone involved to maintain a high standard of professional service, stating, "I am confident that the institute will emerge as a centre of excellence in medical education, research and patient care."
