Nagaland Excise Department Addresses Recruitment Disputes and Liquor Seizures

Kohima: The Nagaland Excise Department has issued a formal clarification to address public concerns regarding staff recruitment, local liquor seizures, and potential policy violations during a recent sporting event. Commissioner of Excise H. Atokhe Aye stated that the department is actively monitoring these issues and aims to ensure transparency through official channels.

Regarding the ongoing excise constable recruitment process, the department confirmed that the matter is currently before the Kohima Bench of the Guwahati High Court. Officials have paused the process while awaiting a final judicial verdict.

The department also commented on the recent seizure of Indian Made Foreign Liquor by the Angami Youth Organisation near Kohima. Commissioner Aye expressed gratitude for the group's assistance in intercepting the shipment. "The department appreciated the organisation’s vigilance and cooperation in intercepting and handing over the seized liquor and the vehicle involved to excise authorities," the release noted. The seized inventory is currently held in the departmental malkhana, and authorities are searching for the suspects who fled the scene.

Additionally, the department is conducting a preliminary inquiry into reports that alcohol was sold during an NSL exhibition match in Chümoukedima. Officials are currently working to verify these claims and determine if any legal violations occurred. The department urged the public to rely on official updates rather than unverified information circulating on social media.
