Kohima: District Planning and Development Boards in Chümoukedima, Longleng and Wokha met on June 10 to address essential service delivery, infrastructure, and regional development goals. Officials focused on a wide array of topics, including census preparations, waste management, healthcare access, and power supply.
In Chümoukedima, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Zhaleo Rio emphasized the importance of policy implementation to ensure benefits reach intended recipients. Addressing sanitation, Rio directed local authorities to maintain regular garbage clearance and prioritize public awareness on waste segregation. He also praised police efforts to reduce accidents through strict traffic enforcement on the National Highway. Regarding the rule of law, Rio stated, "Stating that no one is above the law, he called for strict enforcement of traffic regulations and action against all violators in accordance with the law." Deputy Commissioner Polan John further updated the board on upcoming census operations and electoral roll revisions.
The Longleng board, led by Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom, finalized plans for a highway plantation drive scheduled for June 20. Discussions also turned toward local utility needs, specifically the requirement for additional transformers and the electrification of Toiching Village. Members agreed to honor high-achieving students and government staff during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
In Wokha, new Chairman Mhathung Yanthan presided over his first session, focusing on pending infrastructure projects such as the proposed District Hospital, landslide mitigation in Doyang, and the rejuvenation of the Etsutchukha water pond. Yanthan highlighted the urgency of strengthening healthcare access in rural areas, specifically discussing potential health sub-centres for Pyangsa and Aree New villages. He also praised the Lotha Youth Hoho for its anti-drug initiatives and confirmed that the board would conduct site visits to local de-addiction centres during their next gathering.
