Nagaland Districts Launch Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to Combat Drug Abuse

Kohima: Nagaland marked the start of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026 this week with district-wide events dedicated to eradicating substance abuse. The nationwide campaign, running from June 17 to 26, centers on the theme Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan - Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan to promote a healthier national future.

In Niuland, Deputy Commissioner T.L. Kiusumong Tikhir launched the initiative by emphasizing the role of community members. He stated, "Drug abuse poses a serious threat to society's health and future," while calling for a united effort from educators, parents, and students. The district plans to host outreach programs, student competitions, and awareness talks to support the cause.

Meluri officials focused on the broader social impacts of addiction. Deputy Commissioner Phuleshe K. Yepthomi warned that substance abuse hinders individual productivity and undermines the potential of local youth. Alongside these remarks, SDPO Dr. T. Desela Sangtam addressed the connection between drugs and rising crime, noting that authorities will pursue legal action against drug-related offenses. Medical experts at the event also highlighted the specific dangers of tobacco use.

The campaign reached Tseminyu through a collaborative effort between the local administration and the Social Welfare Department. Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch urged residents to take individual responsibility, noting that meaningful societal change stems from personal commitment. During the event, participants took a formal pledge to support the mission of a drug-free district.
