Kohima: Nagaland officials wrapped up a four-day training course in Kohima this week. The Directorate of School Education and Samagra Shiksha worked with the non-profit Dream a Dream to run the sessions at the SCERT office. The program finished on June 12. It trained 33 instructors from Educational Block Resource Centres and two DIET lecturers.
These leaders now head to the front lines. They will guide the next round of teacher capacity building across the state. The curriculum focused on empathy, self-awareness, and creating safe classroom environments. Trainers spent their time on practice-based exercises to better handle student emotional needs.
Officials want to improve student wellbeing. Samagra Shiksha representatives noted that strengthening these skills is key for success. They believe it helps in "building confidence and creativity, and fostering stronger classroom relationships."
The program aims to change how teachers interact with students daily. These newly trained experts will support Social Emotional Learning in 176 pilot schools. They are tasked with spreading these methods into broader teacher training efforts across Nagaland.
