Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio met with the NITI Aayog Governing Council in New Delhi on Thursday to advocate for the state’s developmental agenda. During the 11th meeting, Rio reaffirmed the state's dedication to the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision while requesting federal fiscal support for several high-priority infrastructure initiatives.
The proposed projects include the construction of the Foothill Road, known as the Trans-Nagaland Highway, and a Greenfield airport at Ciethu. Rio also pushed for the establishment of IIT and AIIMS campuses, the expansion of railway networks, and the resumption of oil and natural gas exploration. His development wish list further included inland waterways, urban flyovers, and enhanced power transmission infrastructure.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the Chief Minister detailed Nagaland’s advancements in governance and sustainability. He noted that the state has become a national leader in meeting Sustainable Development Goal 5. Rio stated, "Nagaland has continued to make significant progress in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG-5, where the state has emerged as a national leader."
The administration has implemented a gender budget statement and an SDG-linked budget architecture to improve fiscal transparency. To foster economic growth and empowerment, Rio highlighted programs such as the Innovation Seed Fund for Nano Women Entrepreneurs and several initiatives targeting youth skill development. He also reported on ongoing digital reforms, including the rollout of e-Stamping and the modernization of land revenue systems.
