Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall across the state until May 25. Residents should prepare for gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour as pre-monsoon activity intensifies.

Through May 24, heavy rain and storms are expected in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, and Wokha. Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, and Zunheboto will also see storm activity during this window. By May 25, the forecast shifts toward isolated thunderstorms and lightning, primarily affecting Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon. Phek and Kiphire remain outside the current warning zones.

Officials expect conditions to stabilize by May 26. In the meantime, the authority urges the public to remain vigilant. Residents should avoid seeking shelter under trees or near electrical infrastructure during storms. Travelers should exercise caution in low-lying areas and locations prone to landslides. Local authorities recommend that citizens monitor weather updates from the India Meteorological Department and their respective district administrations.
