Kohima: Nagaland BJP leaders gathered in Kohima on Monday to mark the 125th birth anniversary of party founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton led the tribute at the state party headquarters. He praised the late leader for his commitment to democratic values and industrial growth.
Patton highlighted Mookerjee’s early work as the youngest Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University. He championed Indian culture and scientific research. During his tenure as the nation's first Minister for Industry and Supply, Mookerjee built foundations for the modern economy. Patton said, "It is a privilege to honour a leader whose life was defined by service, courage and deep love for India."
The event covered Mookerjee’s political history, including his 1951 launch of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Party officials spoke on his legacy of integrity and unity. Youth were encouraged to follow his example of public service. The session ended with a folk fusion performance and a vote of thanks from local district president Khrielie Üsou.
