Kohima: The Nagaland Baptist Church Council has issued a call for churches across the state to actively engage in environmental stewardship. In a message marking Environment Sunday, the council emphasized that protecting the Earth is a central biblical mandate and a clear expression of Christian witness.
Addressing the growing global challenges of climate change and environmental crises, the council stated that believers hold a special duty to manage land, water, and air responsibly. This mission is rooted in the belief that God entrusted humanity with the care of creation. The council clarified that these efforts are not political, noting, "caring for creation is not a political agenda but a biblical mandate."
For the June 2026 observance, the NBCC encouraged local congregations to initiate community clean-up drives, tree planting, and waste management campaigns. Churches were also asked to focus their Sunday sermons on creation care and to foster long-term projects such as community gardens and organic product promotion.
To mark the occasion, the council held a joint program in Bayavu alongside the Nagaland Pollution Control Board and the Students Christian Fellowship. With all church associations now directed to include Environment Sunday on their calendars, the council expressed gratitude for the widespread participation from schools, villages, and civil society groups throughout the state.
