Naga Women’s Union Demands Security Force Drawdown After Killing

Imphal: The Naga Women’s Union wants fewer soldiers in Naga regions. Excessive security presence hurts civilians more than it helps. The group is demanding an immediate review of current military deployments across Manipur.

This renewed push follows the July 29 death of Pouh Lanbimei Riamei. The 29-year-old Village Guard died during an armed assault at Bitiang village. This site sits roughly 17 km from Noney. The union claims ZUF-J rebels and Central Reserve Police Force CoBRA personnel coordinated the attack. The NWU demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the killing. They want those responsible held accountable without delay.

"The Union reminded all security agencies of their professional responsibilities, stressing the need to exercise operational restraint, protect civilian lives and uphold constitutional laws without prejudice or bias."

The group honored Riamei for his service. He died defending his community. Beyond this case, the union is still pushing for justice regarding the abduction and murder of six other Naga civilians. They allege those killers operate out of Leilon Vaiphei village. The NWU confirmed it will keep fighting for the dignity and safety of all Naga people.
