Kohima: Two prominent Naga organizations have joined forces to oppose the Nagaland government's decision to hold International Yoga Day activities in schools this Sunday. The Naga Students Federation and the Central Nagaland Tribes Council issued separate statements criticizing the directorate of school education for its directive, arguing that scheduling the event on a Sunday ignores the region's religious values.

The Naga Students Federation condemned the order as a blatant disregard for the spiritual convictions of the local population. In a firm message to state officials, the group demanded the immediate withdrawal of the circular and warned the government against forcing participation. They described the directive as an unwarranted mandate and declared that the federation will hold authorities solely responsible for any negative repercussions resulting from this decision.

The Central Nagaland Tribes Council echoed these concerns in an open letter to the principal director of the school education department. While the council acknowledged the importance of promoting health and fitness, they questioned the sensitivity of organizers who chose to ignore that Sunday is a day dedicated to worship for the state's Christian majority. The council warned that failing to reschedule the event could lead to public unrest and avoidable tensions.
