Naga People's Front Secures Two Seats in Nagaland Town Council By-Polls

Kohima: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) claimed victory in two of the three wards contested during the recent Nagaland town council by-elections. Official results released by the State Election Commission on June 19 confirmed the outcome of the polls held on June 16.

In Chümoukedima Town Council, NPF candidate Neichii-u Kuotsu secured Ward 11 with 326 votes, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party's Kezhangutuo Zhotso by 90 votes. Wokha Town Council saw another NPF win as Ar. Aling Lotha defeated Mhomo Humtsoe by 37 votes. Following his success, Lotha stated, "my professional expertise would be utilised for better planning and developmental initiatives."

The third contest in Ward 9 of the Atoizu Town Council resulted in an Independent victory. Inaka Z Chishi narrowly defeated NPF candidate G Shikavi Kiba by a margin of 17 votes. Counting for the Atoizu seat took place at the District Civil Supply Office, while the other results were determined at the Deputy Commissioner’s offices in their respective districts.

State Election Commissioner T. John Longkumer praised the officials, security personnel, and media for overseeing a smooth electoral process. With the declaration of these results, the Model Code of Conduct, which had been active since the election notification, concluded at midnight on June 19.
