Kohima: The Naga Council Dimapur has submitted a formal set of recommendations to the Dimapur deputy commissioner to address the city’s ongoing traffic congestion. Vice president M Biremong Yimkhiung and general secretary LK Peter Anal suggested that schools implement on-campus drop-off zones to stop roadside blockages during peak hours, alongside staggered school start times.
To clear the streets, the council urged shop owners to avoid parking in customer spaces and requested that authorities remove abandoned vehicles and construction debris from public roads. The council also requested the removal of military vehicles stationed between Dhobinala and Signal Angami Village to free up space. Addressing the issue of roadside vendors, the organization called for action against stalls that obstruct pedestrian and vehicle movement, particularly around the busy New Market area.
Looking toward long-term development, the council proposed that future building permits depend on the inclusion of adequate parking facilities. They also requested that the state government build additional flyovers to accommodate the city’s rising population. Regarding commercial operations, the council suggested allowing businesses to stay open until 9pm to boost the local economy and manage traffic flow. The organization noted that these steps are essential to maintain the city's status, stating, "The proposed measures would help improve traffic flow, enhance the city’s appeal as Nagaland’s commercial hub and support economic growth."
