Imphal: Nearly 1,000 members of the Naga community gathered at the Nagaland State Guest House in RK Puram on Saturday to demand justice for six civilians allegedly abducted and killed in Manipur. Organised by the Naga Students Union Delhi (NSUD), the candlelight vigil took place after authorities reportedly denied the group permission to meet at Jantar Mantar and later disrupted an alternative gathering in Ghitorni.

Before the vigil, NSUD representatives submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur at Manipur Bhawan. The union alleged that the six victims, including a Reverend, were kidnapped on May 13 and executed after being handed over to armed Kuki militants. Their demands include the removal of Deputy Manipur Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and the termination of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant organisations.

Speakers at the event highlighted the need for collective action and accountability in the face of ongoing regional violence. Supreme Court Advocate Gaichangpou Gangmei addressed the crowd, noting, "The foundation of justice is truth. The very truth of the narration is under attack. Should not the truth be told?"

Additional speakers, including Moses Charenamei and Adv. Worso Zimik, called for unity among the Naga community despite the hardships caused by the unrest. The event concluded with prayers and a final message from Er. Hutovi Yeptho, who stated, "Peace is not merely the absence of violence. Peace is the presence of justice."
