Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress has raised alarms over the insufficient support provided to students ahead of the NEET re-examination on June 21. Many candidates, particularly those from remote and rural areas, are currently struggling to secure transport and accommodation on very short notice.
Approximately 3,200 students from the state are affected by this requirement. This includes about 750 candidates from the Garo Hills and roughly 2,500 from the Khasi and Jaintia Hills. With testing centers restricted to Shillong and Tura, the short turnaround time has forced many families into a stressful race against the clock.
The youth wing criticized the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for failing to implement adequate assistance programs. While the administration frequently discusses long-term infrastructure like the new medical colleges, the organization argued that immediate student needs remain neglected. According to the MPYC, "the issue extends beyond political considerations" because it directly impacts the future of aspiring medical professionals in the state.
The organization highlighted that the current logistical hurdles place an unfair burden on students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. By failing to provide necessary resources for this critical gateway exam, the state risks undermining the future healthcare workforce. The MPYC is now calling for immediate government intervention to ensure that students can reach their centers and compete fairly.
