Guwahati: Organisations representing the Moran and Motok communities announced a 48-hour bandh across the Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts on Thursday, June 4. The protest follows the omission of community representatives from the newly formed state cabinet, a decision that has sparked significant frustration among local leaders.
During a press conference at Bodousa Bhawan in Tinsukia, community representatives voiced their disappointment, noting that their people have consistently contributed to the state political process. They argued that despite their strong support base and political significance, they were denied a seat at the cabinet level.
The groups described the current cabinet composition as unfair to the indigenous population of Upper Assam. They are demanding immediate action to ensure proper political representation for their people. One representative stated that the bandh is a democratic movement aimed at "securing rightful representation for the Moran and Motok communities."
The organisations have asked the public to support the strike. Leaders also warned that they are prepared to intensify their agitation if the government continues to ignore their demands for better inclusion.
