Mokokchung Marks World Day Against Child Labour With Awareness Drive

Kohima: The District Child Protection Unit in Mokokchung observed World Day Against Child Labour 2026 by hosting a community poster campaign and a specialized training programme for local authorities. Guided by the theme, "Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults," the events aimed to strengthen institutional responses while educating the public on their role in protecting minors.

Campaign posters were displayed at prominent locations, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the Municipal Council Shopping Complex, and local petrol pumps. Five interns from Fazl Ali College helped lead the outreach, speaking directly to business owners and workers about the necessity of education and the legal protections afforded to children. Officials reminded the public that cases of child labour can be reported at any time through the 24-hour Child Helpline at 1098.

To complement the outreach, the Nagaland Labour Department collaborated with the District Child Protection Unit to conduct training on rescue procedures. Held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the session provided stakeholders with technical knowledge on inter-departmental coordination and post-rescue rehabilitation. Participants discussed critical follow-up measures such as counseling, family reintegration, and educational support to ensure children do not return to labor.

Representatives from departments including the police, health services, education, and civil society attended the training. Organizers noted that these combined efforts reflect a shared commitment to the belief that "childhood is for learning, not labour."
