Aizawl: The Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the apex women's organization in Mizoram, has strongly condemned a human trafficking case involving the exploitation of local women. The incident surfaced after a survivor escaped and filed an FIR at the All Women Police Station in Aizawl on May 1. According to the complaint, victims were lured to the Beauty Queen Salon and Spa in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, with promises of legitimate employment and a monthly salary of Rs 20,000.

Upon arriving in October, the women reported being forced into prostitution, with management claiming that providing extra services to customers was a mandatory condition for receiving pay. Victims alleged they were compelled to entertain between three and nine clients daily, frequently under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances. They remained confined within the premises, which were kept locked to prevent escape. A group of women eventually managed to break a lock and flee on April 4, returning to Mizoram three days later.

Following the report, a Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the network. In a joint operation between Mizoram Police, the state Women and Child Development Department, and Uttarakhand Police, authorities rescued five Mizo women, including two minors. Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the racket, including Lalnunsiami of Kolasib district and a man identified as Mohammad from Uttar Pradesh, who allegedly posed as her husband and operated the spa.

The MHIP has pledged to pursue the case to ensure the perpetrators face stringent legal punishment. The organization is also urging young women to exercise caution when seeking employment outside the state and has called on parents, churches, and local communities to remain vigilant against such exploitation networks.
