Aizawl: State government employees in Mizoram have scheduled a mass casual leave for June 8 to advocate for the return of the Old Pension Scheme. The decision followed a meeting held by the Mizoram Movement for Old Pension Scheme, an organization representing staff members currently enrolled in the New Pension Scheme. Leaders of the group stated that they were forced into this action due to the government's continued failure to address their long-standing concerns regarding retirement benefits.

The organization emphasized the need for unity among the workforce to ensure the success of their campaign. Members were encouraged to participate fully in the upcoming protest, as leaders warned that a lack of collective action could undermine their ability to influence policy changes. The group also expressed frustration over the state government's inaction regarding the Unified Pension Scheme, a program introduced by the central government last April.

Representatives pointed out that other states such as Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, and Manipur have already adopted the Unified Pension Scheme for their staff. They criticized the Mizoram government for falling behind these regions, noting that other states managed to implement these changes without the need for lengthy study committees. The group maintains that the current situation leaves them with no alternative but to intensify their agitation efforts.
