Aizawl: Mizoram is revamping its sports infrastructure to cultivate future Olympic athletes. Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar announced the state's strategic plan during the opening of the P C Gabriel Lalliansanga Memorial MBA Junior Official Badminton Championship in Aizawl.

The government is concentrating its efforts on eight specific Olympic disciplines where local athletes have demonstrated significant natural ability. These sports include archery, badminton, boxing, hockey, judo, taekwondo, weightlifting, and wrestling. By building a systematic framework for development, officials hope to identify and support young talent early in their careers.

Hmar urged young competitors to maintain an Olympic vision as they train. He noted that Mizoram has already achieved notable success in junior and sub-junior badminton, producing a pipeline of promising champions. The minister expressed confidence that continued investment in professional coaching and infrastructure will allow the state to excel on both national and international stages.

Beyond competitive success, the government views sports as a vital tool for the youth. Hmar described athletic participation as a powerful way to enhance the physical and mental well-being of the younger generation. The initiative aims to create a sustainable sporting culture that supports long-term growth for Mizo athletes.
