Aizawl: The Mizoram government has launched a digital medical referral system to simplify the treatment process for employees seeking care outside the state. Health Minister Lalrinpuii inaugurated the platform in Aizawl, highlighting its role in improving healthcare access and governance through technology. The system aims to eliminate the cumbersome physical paperwork that previously required patients to visit multiple offices.
Developed by the Directorate of Hospital and Medical Education and the Mizoram State e-Governance Society, the portal addresses long-standing challenges for patients living outside the capital. The government has established District Screening Committees in all district hospitals to evaluate cases locally. These committees will coordinate with referral boards through video conferencing to speed up the approval process.
Government employees can apply for provisional referral permission at medicalreferralmizoram.in by uploading their documents and paying a 20 rupee fee. While this rollout focuses on state workers, general beneficiaries under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme must still report to the state health society for processing. The health department noted that over 46,000 families are already enrolled in the broader digital health scheme, signaling a shift toward more modern medical administrative practices.
