Aizawl: Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama has called for a renewed commitment to protecting the cultural heritage and traditions of the Mizo people. Speaking at a Zo ni cultural event near Aizawl organized by the Young Mizo Association, he emphasized that these customs and values remain fundamental to the identity of the community.

Lalbiakzama, who serves the Chalfilh constituency, noted that the state has seen a significant rise in tourism as visitors share their positive experiences of local life on social media. He credited this growing reputation to the people of Mizoram and their distinct way of life. According to the Speaker, "Mizo traditions, customs and values are central to the identity of the community and have also helped enhance Mizoram’s image among visitors from India and abroad."

To ensure the community stays connected to its roots, the Speaker encouraged citizens to continue practicing traditional principles like Tlawmngaihna, which is the spirit of selfless service. He also urged residents to maintain a deep respect for elders and to actively teach younger generations about local folk songs, dances, folklore, and traditional attire. By preserving these practices, he said, the community can ensure its cultural legacy remains vibrant and respected on a national stage.
