Aizawl: A seven-member Mizoram Assembly committee is currently touring four major cities to audit the state's official guest houses. The panel launched the inspection on September 7 and plans to wrap up its work by September 12. They are scrutinizing operations in Guwahati, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. The team wants to see if these facilities truly serve the Mizo population living or traveling outside their home state.
Committee Chairman Clement Lalhmingthanga leads the Subject Committee-II group. The legislators are paying close attention to medical support services for patients seeking care far from home. They met with local Mizo community members to hear firsthand about their experiences and specific grievances. "The committee is examining the role of Mizoram Houses in supporting Mizos living outside the state," according to an official statement issued September 11.
The lawmakers are looking at more than just existing services. In Bengaluru and Mumbai, they inspected plots of land slated for new construction. The Guwahati stop included a site visit to an unfinished building project. The group is cataloging every operational challenge and identifying areas needing immediate upgrades. They will draft a formal report of their findings, including concrete recommendations, to present to the Mizoram Assembly for further state government action.
