Minor boy arrested after teen girl found with severe burns in Ri-Bhoi

Shillong: Police arrested a minor boy after a 19-year-old woman turned up with extensive burns across her head and upper body. The victim, who had been staying at a house in Ri-Bhoi district, remains under medical care. She is currently undergoing treatment at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences.

The trouble started on October 29. The victim left her home for Guwahati to attend scheduled programs. She was expected back by November 1, but never returned. Her mother filed an FIR at the Mawdiangdiang Police Outpost that same day. She received a tip at 3:30 am on November 1 that her daughter was hurt.

Family members confirmed the victim's age after visiting the hospital on November 6. They also verified that the boy involved is a minor from outside the state. The victim's mother urged authorities to take action, stating she wants police to "conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to her daughter’s injuries, arrest the person responsible and take action in accordance with the law." Investigators have yet to release details on how the injuries occurred.
