Meriema Village Youth Organisation Urges Return to Traditional Junction Names

Kohima: The Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) has issued a formal appeal to government agencies, institutions, and the public to restore the traditional names of local landmarks in all official communications. The group wants all records, publications, and signage to reflect the original titles of Meriema and Pfuratsie Junction.

According to the organization, these names are deeply rooted in village heritage and serve as a vital link to the community's history and identity. The MVYO noted that many departments currently use variations like Merema or Merima, while also referring to the local site as High Court Junction.

The group emphasized that while the High Court remains a significant landmark, it should not displace the established cultural nomenclature. In a public release, the MVYO stated, "The names Meriema and Pfuratsie originate from the village’s heritage and carry significant cultural meaning that reflects the identity and history of the community."

Moving forward, the organization is requesting that all future signage and correspondence adopt the formal designations of Meriema Village and Pfuratsie Junction to preserve local traditions.
